The name "Ugg Boots" refers to a particular style of boot that is made from genuine sheepskin. The boots were originally made in Australia. Today, an American company owns the Ugg trademark ("Ugg Australia"), but they are still made from the same Australian Merino sheepskin, only in Australia they are sold as "Australian Sheepskin Boots." A version of Ugg Boots, the "Fug" (Flying Ugg) first made an appearance outside of the shepherd community during World War I. Pilots wore the cozy boots during cold days. Later, in the 1960s, smart surfers figured that Ugg Boots would be perfect for keeping their feet warm in between catching the waves or after coming out of the cold ocean water.

Whatever you call them, Ugg Boots are quite a hit now, everywhere. Trendsetters are tripping over themselves to get a pair. Now, back to the name, "Ugg." Rumor has it that "ugg" is an Australian slang word for "ugly." Ugg Boots come in so many styles and colors, it's hard to keep track of them all.
